With over 30 years of personal and professional experience, training, and education, Michael is here to help individuals and families find solutions to alcohol and drug abuse and addiction problems. He is focused on helping others using a broad range of applied therapeutic approaches to help individuals restore their lives to the best versions of themselves.
Employed with compassion, empathy, understanding, and the desire to help, he believes that a person’s recovery program and path to serenity is unique. Armed with these attributes, success for those suffering from substance and alcohol abuse and addiction is improved allowing for clients to live amazing and healthy lives.
Michael earned his bachelor’s in counseling psychology focused on substance abuse education and prevention and a master’s degree in counseling psychology, specializing in addiction sciences from Aspen University in Denver, Colorado graduating Magna Cum Laude with both degrees.
Michael is married to his wonderful wife Elizabeth and shares two daughters Madison, and Amanda, two grandchildren Stella and Bryson. In his spare time, Michael is an avid sports fan and also spends much time with his dogs Ricotta Brie and Monterrey Jackie.
Michael uses a broad range of techniques and applications when working with individuals and families. He believes there is no “one size fits all” method of treating an individual as each person is their own “island”, needing specific theoretical application.

He firmly believes the twelve-step model of therapy is one which holds a significant foundation in his professional practice. Often, he will incorporate what techniques and approaches will be the best suited, in an approach to help the individual overcome the grips of substance or alcohol abuse or addiction using integrated techniques.
Individuals suffering from a substance or alcohol abuse disorder or addiction often face many barriers to treatment. Finding time to attend therapy, transportation to therapy, and finances are all some of the major hurdles a person may encounter. With Brella Counseling Group, we can bring the treatment to you.
Whether online, over the phone, or in my office or yours, some of those barriers are removed allowing an individual access to the necessary care and treatment they need. We accept most major medical insurances, offer a sliding-scale self-pay scale for those without health insurance as well to help you meet your needs.

Brella Counseling Group is a psychotherapy practice that offers individual and group therapy sessions to help clients work through a range of individual and family substance and alcohol abuse and addiction challenges.
We offer a range of evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychosocial, biosocial, solution-focused, and mindfulness-based therapies, with a firm grounding in the twelve-step model of addiction treatment
Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes long, while group therapy sessions may be longer. The length of each session may vary depending on the needs of the client.
